Here you will find a list of common questions associated with the purchase of Winstep products.

Pre-Purchase:


Q) Does your software, including the trial and free versions, include any Adware or Spyware?

A) Winstep software, free, trial or otherwise, does NOT contain any Spyware or Adware of any kind.

Q) Will you ever give or sell my email address to 3rd parties?

A) Absolutely NOT! We do not give out any customer information to anyone at any time.

Q) Will I be spammed to death by you after I purchase?

A) Not at all. In fact, to be exact, in over 15 years we never sent a single unsolicited email to our customers.

Q) Why should I buy from you instead of competitor's product x which is a bit cheaper?

A) Yes, we're a bit more expensive, but we're also the best.

At first glance both products might seem similar, but run them both for a week and you will quickly spot the profound differences that make Winstep software well worth the small difference in price. Winstep's attention to detail and focus on functionality, instead of just eye-candy, are legendary in the Windows Customization world.

Winstep software is also constantly being updated with new features and is fully compatible with the latest version of Windows.

Q) Product x is similar to yours and is free! Why would I pay for something that I can get for free?

A) As always, you get what you pay for. Winstep offers well designed software of professional quality that will work flawlessly with current operating systems.

Although a minority of the free software may be of good quality, have you noticed that the vast majority has an average life of just one or two years?

The story is always the same: the author either loses interest in his hobby or gets a job that can pay his bills - and no longer has the time available to develop and support his free application. Why would you want to use an unsupported program? What are you going to do if it crashes or if you need changes? Where are you going to find support and upgrades? How will you get newer versions to support new operating systems and features? You'll be doing yourself a favor if you find a newer program that you also like and is still actively supported.

Winstep has been one of the leading players in Windows customization for the past fifteen years and will, without a doubt, remain so for a very long time, reliably bringing you joy with constant development, excellent technical support, and continuous support for new technologies and Windows versions.

Q) Ah! But some of your software is also free! How come?

A) It's a marketing tool like any other, and one that is subsidized by the commercial versions. The idea is that you will like our free software so much that you'll want to upgrade to the more powerful paid versions.

Q) Why should I pay for the Pro version of the Winstep Start Menu Organizer if I can do the same thing for free using nothing but Windows Explorer and drag & drop?

A) Two major reasons: price and convenience.

How much do you value your time? How much is one hour of your time worth to you? US $40? The Start Menu Organizer Pro allows you to do in 5 minutes what it would take you one or two hours to do manually via drag & drop - and that is assuming you don't make any mistakes and know what you are doing. Think about it: even if you only use it once - and you'll use it more than that because new applications are installed all the time - at only $19.95 for a lifetime license it has already more than paid for itself!

Q) What is the upgrade policy for Nexus Ultimate and Winstep Xtreme?

A) Essentially you get free upgrades for one year after purchase, and after that, whenever you want, you can get another year of free upgrades for a fraction of the original purchase price. Q) Why don't you offer free life time upgrades when I purchase your software?

A) How long do you think a shop would manage to stay in business if it had to rely solely on a constant stream of new customers? A large slice of every successful company's income comes from repeated business. This actually benefits YOU too: unhappy customers are unlikely to come back, so naturally we want to keep you happy! Q) Ah, but the Winstep Start Menu Organizer Pro comes with free updates for life!

A) Yes, but only because that is not the type of application that we need to upgrade constantly. It does a relatively simple job, and does it well from the very beginning.

Post-Purchase:


Q) How long does it take to receive my license key?

A) An email with your license key is sent to you the very minute you complete your purchase. If you can't find it, please make sure it did not get trapped by your spam filter.

Q) What should I do if I still haven't received my key after a reasonable amount of time?

A) Contact Winstep Support and BMT Micro, our payment processor, with your order details. Most likely, the email with your license key was sent to you but got trapped by your spam filter, or was silently discarded by your ISP (Comcast is infamously well known for doing this). That is why it is always a good idea to provide two different email addresses in the order form when purchasing.

Q) What should I do if I receive no answer from Winstep support after 48 hours?

A) Winstep is well known for replying to customer queries in a timely manner, so if you get no answer within 48 hours it usually means that we didn't get your email, or that it was trapped by our spam filter (yes, it happens to us too). In that case, please contact us via the Winstep Forums.
